You say you see yourself when you look at me, but I’m never who I want to be. I just change into whoever’s around. Some take a glance, some tend to stare, most of them act like I’m not there. And I don’t care, I just like hanging around. But what happens to me, when no one can see? Turn the lights off, lock me in a room alone. I don’t see myself when I look at you, just an empty shell, someone I thought I knew. Where did you go? Where have you been? ‘Cause the color is fading from your eyes, you’re a part of me I just don’t recognize. What have I done? Tell me what happens. What happens to me, when no one can see? Turn the lights off, lock me in a room alone. Guess I’m just a reflection of the world I live in. Reflection of the shit that happens. Reflection of the places I go. Impression of the people I know. Projection of the life I’m faking. Corrections that I am always making. Directions that I just end up going. Answers that I am never knowing. Questions that I keep on asking. Obsessions I can’t help from having. Collection of the parts that come crashing down. Oh what happens to me, when no one can see.

You said “where is your head at”? I said I wish I knew that, so I could finally prove that I have so much more to say. I feel it, can’t articulate it, it’s growing right on the tip of my tongue. If we could run, just you and I, from this glancing, staring room of eyes, we’ll take the long way and you can pick my brain. I can’t promise much, I promise to try. This whole time I’ve been lying, hiding insecurities. I’m so fucking scared of the person across from me. And there’s no use in trying, I’ve been damaged. Broken, baby. Long before you even knew my name. If you still want to try, if you see right through my indifferent eyes, we’ll take the long way and you can pick my brain. I can’t promise much, I promise to try. Never thought this would be a problem. Never thought this would be the problem. Never thought this could be a problem.

Well I could write a thousand songs about it and hope you get it, but I doubt it. My words can mean so many different things. I could paint you a picture of how I’m feeling. It would be abstract and unappealing, and no one would quite get it except me. But isn’t this just how it is for most artists and musicians? We are all trying to say the same old things a different way. I found your sweater on the floor and kept it in my mind as a metaphor of how you always left me feeling warm. One day I’ll say it, I’ll get it out. I’ll introduce your ears to my mouth and just let them figure it all out. But isn’t this just how it is for most artists and musicians? We are all trying to say the same old thing a different way.

I was building backwards, starting from the top and working down, while you were doing the heavy lifting, laying the foundation down. By the end of that winter you were warming up, but I still felt cold, because I dug around and I found all the things you’d hid below. No I don’t want anything better, I don’t want anything at all. I just think that once we cross that line, we’ll fake this to make this then break this. It’s just overwhelming, you’ve got your destination and I’ve got mine, and I don’t see anywhere on here where the two roads will collide. It won’t take a lifetime, but I think it might take a while and there’s no sense hanging around when it’s not happening at all. No I don’t want anything better, I don’t want anything at all. I just think that once we cross that line, we’ll fake this to make this then break this.
